Jamestown was cool. We were able to listen to the first 30min or so of a ranger led tour before fleeing the heat and humidity.
Here’s what I came away with… the original English settlement in America was founded on Gold, Glory and God. There’s an old church with the 10 Commandments on the wall where they heard the Word and worshipped. Yet somehow, that original goal quickly morphed into systematic slavery and an economy completely dependent on profits reaped from nicotine addiction.
Somehow we Christians are quick to forget the whole “love your neighbor (aka fellow human beings) as yourself” commandment. You know, the one that Jesus said was second only to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” The south in the 1600s, Germany in the 1930s, Rwanda in the 90s… all “Christianized” people that forgot what it truly means to follow Christ.
walking around a colonial re-enactment sweating like a pig… not so much fun.
riding waterslides with kids… lots of fun.
